Buck found 72 hours after the shot.

At Delmarva Drone Deer Recovery, we take immense pride in our successful searches. Here’s the story of Marty Wood and his eight Point Buck.

Marty Wood has been hunting for many years. Over the course of his hunting career he has been able to harvest some trophy whitetail bucks, not the least of which is his recent eight point.

Marty took his crossbow and went hunting on the evening of Thursday, November 21. He was hunting the edge of a field when this nice eight point buck walked out. Marty got ready and took the shot. He was unable to locate the deer that night.

The next day Marty went back in to track his deer. He found his bolt about 400y from the location of the shot. He continued looking until he heard a large deer jump up and run off through the brush. Thinking the deer may have been his buck, Marty decided to back out. Marty called us at Delmarva Drone Deer Recovery on Sunday morning and we arranged to start the search on Sunday evening.

I met Marty that evening and we started the search. Despite seeing many deer, we did not see Marty’s buck. After an hour and a half of searching we finally found a heat signature that looked promising. The heat signature was coming from a very thick area of the woods and it took some maneuvering to be able to see down through the trees. We were able to then confirm that it was indeed a dead buck. We got the location of the deer and were able to go in and recover the buck that night. We estimate that the deer ran 700y and had been dead for a minimum of 48 hours and possibly up to 72 hours.

Congratulations on this great deer Marty Wood!
